Privacy Policy - ReadSync

Last updated: August 5, 2026

1. Overview

ReadSync ("the App") is developed by Definitely Human. This policy explains what data the App collects, why, and who it is shared with. We have written it to describe what the App actually does rather than to cover every theoretical case.

The short version: your documents, reading position, highlights and notes are stored in your own private iCloud database. We do not operate a server that holds them, and we never see them.

2. What We Never Collect

The App never collects, transmits or stores your PDF files, document titles, page contents, highlighted text, or the text of your notes. None of this reaches us in any form.

There is no account system: no sign-up, no login, no email address, no password. The App does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other apps or websites, and never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt. There are no ads.

3. Your Documents and Reading Data

Documents you add, your reading position, highlights, notes and bookmarks are stored on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your own private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit. This is what makes your page, highlights and notes appear on your other Apple devices.

That data is held in your personal iCloud account, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to it, and there is no Definitely Human server involved at any point.

Your original PDF is never modified: highlights and notes are stored separately and drawn on top when you open the document. If you choose to leave a file where it is instead of copying it into the App, the App keeps only a reference to it.

The App works fully offline. Syncing is a layer on top and is never a requirement for reading.

4. Analytics — Only With Your Permission

The App uses Mixpanel to understand how the app is used. Analytics is off until you allow it: the SDK is started in an opted-out state, and no event and no network request is sent before you tap "Allow".

You are asked once, and not on first launch — the request appears after you have resumed a document and closed the reader. If you decline, nothing is ever sent. You can change your answer at any time in the App's Reading settings.

If you allow analytics, the following is sent:

Document titles, page contents, highlight text and note text are never included in any event.

This data is processed by Mixpanel as our service provider. See the Mixpanel Privacy Policy.

This website separately uses Google Analytics to measure page visits.

5. In-App Purchases

ReadSync Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see or receive your payment details. The App only learns whether a valid purchase exists. If you have allowed analytics, a completed purchase is recorded as an event containing the product identifier, price and currency — never any payment information.

6. Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores a small amount of information locally that is never transmitted: your reader preferences (such as night mode, layout and default zoom), your analytics choice, and whether the app has already delivered the moment that triggers the analytics question.

7. Your Choices

You can turn analytics off — or back on — at any time in the App's Reading settings. Turning iCloud off for ReadSync in iOS or macOS Settings stops syncing; the App keeps working on that device. Deleting a document from your library removes it, and its highlights and notes, from your iCloud database. Deleting the App removes its local data.

To request deletion of analytics data associated with your installation, contact us and we will pass the request to Mixpanel.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages. It does not ask for or knowingly collect personal information from children. The analytics described in section 4 measure app usage only and are not used to build advertising profiles.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be noted in the App or on our website.
