Privacy Policy - Zip&Rar

1. Overview

Zip&Rar ("the App") is developed by Definitely Human. This policy explains what data the App collects, why, and who it is shared with. We have written it to describe what the App actually does rather than to cover every theoretical case.

2. What We Never Collect

Your archives and the files inside them never leave your device. Extraction and compression happen entirely on your iPhone or iPad. We do not upload your files, we do not scan them, and we never see their names or contents.

We do not operate an account system: there is no sign-up, no login, no email address, and no password. The App does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other apps or websites, and never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt.

3. Your Files

Files you import are stored in the App's own storage on your device, protected by iOS file encryption. When you open an archive, its contents are extracted into a temporary folder on the same device.

The App appears in the iOS Files app as its own location, so you can browse what you have stored without opening the App. That view reads from the same local storage; nothing is transmitted.

Extracted files are cleaned up automatically after a period you choose in Settings (7, 14, 30 or 90 days, or never). You can also clear them by hand at any time. Deleting the App removes everything it stored, including your imported archives.

4. Photos, Music and Camera

The App requests access to your photo library only at the moment you choose to compress photos or videos, to your music library only when you choose to add audio files to an archive, and to the camera only when you choose to attach a photo you take. If you decline, the rest of the App keeps working.

Selected media is copied into the archive you are creating, on your device. It is not sent anywhere.

5. WhatsApp Chat Exports

If you open a chat exported from WhatsApp, the App reads the exported text file and its attached photos and videos from the archive and displays them as a conversation. This happens entirely on your device. The messages are never uploaded, analysed, or included in any usage event.

6. Cloud Storage

You can bring files in from iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, or any other provider you have installed. This goes through the standard iOS file picker: iOS hands the App the file you chose, and the App never sees your cloud account, your credentials, or the rest of your cloud storage.

7. Analytics

The App uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used. It does not include crash reporting.

What is sent:

• Usage events — for example: the App opened for the first time, a file was imported, an archive was viewed, the upgrade screen was shown, a purchase succeeded or failed, a file was locked or unlocked with Face ID, an update prompt was dismissed. These record that an action happened.
• The source of an import — when a file arrives from another app, the name of that app (for example "Mail") is included in the event. The file name is not.
• A device identifier generated by Firebase for this app installation. It is not the Advertising Identifier and is not linked to your name or account.

File names, folder names, archive contents, passwords, and chat messages are never included in any event.

This website also uses Google Analytics to measure page visits.

8. Passwords

Passwords you type to open a protected archive, and passwords you set when creating one, are used at that moment and are not stored by the App or transmitted anywhere. We cannot recover a password you have forgotten, and we cannot open an archive for you.

9. In-App Purchases

Zip&Rar Pro is a one-time purchase handled by Apple. We never see or receive your payment details.

We use RevenueCat to check whether a valid purchase exists and to restore it on your other devices. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier for your installation and the purchase information Apple provides — not your name, email, or payment details. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.

10. Version Check

On launch the App asks Apple's public App Store lookup service whether a newer version exists. This request contains the App's identifier and, as with any network request, your device's IP address. It contains nothing about you or your files.

11. Data Stored on Your Device

The App keeps a small amount of information locally, which is never transmitted: whether you have seen the introduction, whether App Lock is switched on, your automatic cleanup setting, the folder you last opened, and whether a Pro purchase was found.

Two values are stored in the iOS Keychain: the date the App was first opened, and a flag recording that the free file preview has been used. Because of how iOS works, Keychain values survive deleting and reinstalling the App. Erasing the device removes them.

12. Your Choices

You can revoke photo, music, or camera access at any time in iOS Settings. You can turn App Lock off, change or disable automatic cleanup, and clear stored files from within the App. Deleting the App removes all files and settings it stored on your device. To request deletion of analytics data associated with your installation, contact us and we will pass the request to Google.

13. Children's Privacy

The App is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. It does not ask for or knowingly collect personal information from children. The analytics described in section 7 measure app usage only and are not used to build advertising profiles.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the App changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be noted in the App or on our website.
