Privacy Policy — Silencer

Last Updated: April 2026

1. Overview

Silencer ("the app", "we", "us") is a community-based spam call blocking application that respects user privacy. This policy explains what data is collected when you use the app, how it is used, and how it is protected.

By continuing to use the app, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Account and Identity Data

Silencer does not require user registration, an email address, or a phone number. The app automatically creates an anonymous user ID via Firebase Authentication. This ID:

  • Is randomly generated and does not personally identify you.
  • Is specific to your device and is not linked to any other service.
  • May be displayed in abbreviated form on the Settings screen.

2.2 Device Hash

To prevent duplicate reports, a one-way hash value is computed from your device. This value:

  • Is irreversible — the original device information cannot be recovered.
  • Does not reveal your personal identity.
  • Is used on the server solely for report integrity checks.
  • A new hash is generated when you change devices.

2.3 Report Data

When you report a number, the following data is sent to the server:

  • The reported phone number (in E.164 format, e.g. +905xxxxxxxxx)
  • Vote type: spam or safe
  • Category: robocall, scam, telemarketing, or other
  • Optional note (up to 200 characters — only sent if you write one)
  • Anonymous user ID
  • Device hash value
  • App version
  • Timestamp

2.4 Technical Usage Data

Firebase infrastructure may collect standard technical data (IP address, request time, etc.) as part of normal server operations. This data is subject to Google's Firebase Privacy Policy. The app does not directly process or store this data.

2.5 Data We Do NOT Collect

Silencer does not collect:

  • Your name or username
  • Your email address
  • Your own phone number
  • Location data
  • Contacts or address book
  • Microphone or camera access
  • Advertising identifier (IDFA)

3. How We Use Your Data

Collected data is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Anonymous user ID: Report ownership and rate limiting
  • Device hash: Preventing duplicate reports
  • Phone number + vote: Calculating the community spam score
  • Report category: Classifying the call type
  • App version: Bug tracking and compatibility

4. How the Spam Score Works

Silencer uses Bayesian statistics to process report data:

  • Each user's vote is weighted according to account age and past contributions.
  • Votes from new users carry less weight; long-term, active users have greater influence.
  • When a number's score exceeds the 0.6 threshold, it is added to the block list.
  • When the community marks a number as safe, the score decreases and the number may be removed from the list.

This system prevents any single user from manipulating the database.

5. Data Storage and Security

  • All data is stored on Google Firebase Firestore (European region: europe-west1).
  • The block list is stored locally on your device in a SQLite database (shared with the CallKit extension via an App Group).
  • There is no direct write access to Firestore from the client; all write operations go through Cloud Functions protected by security rules.
  • Data is encrypted in transit and at rest in accordance with Firebase security standards.

6. Data Sharing

Silencer does not sell, rent, or commercially share your personal data with third parties.

Data may only be shared in the following circumstances:

  • Google Firebase / Google Cloud Platform: As the infrastructure provider, subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Legal obligation: If required by a valid court order or applicable law.

7. Data Retention

  • Report records: Retained for as long as your account is active
  • Spam number database: Indefinitely (updated by the community)
  • Anonymous user profile: Retained for as long as your account is active

To request deletion of your data, please contact us at definetelyhuman.com/contact.

8. Children's Privacy

Silencer is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect data from this age group. If we become aware that data has been collected from a user we believe to be under 13, we will delete that data promptly.

9. Third-Party Services

The app uses the following third-party services:

  • Firebase Authentication — Anonymous identity management (Privacy Policy)
  • Firebase Firestore — Database (Privacy Policy)
  • Firebase Cloud Functions — Secure data processing (Privacy Policy)
  • Apple CallKit — System-level call blocking (Privacy Policy)

10. Your Rights

Under KVKK (Turkish Personal Data Protection Law) and GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • The right to request access to data held about you
  • The right to request deletion of your data
  • The right to request correction of your data
  • The right to object to data processing
